A couple of lines of Basim Aijaz’s TikTik video—”Kya Karoge Tum Aakhir, Kab er Par Meri Aakar… Thodi Der Ro Loge, Aur Bhool Jaaoge…”—turned out to be a disturbing premonition.
12-year-old Basim was seriously injured, along with four other people, after “a wall has collapsed” in the Nawa Kadal site meeting last Tuesday in the Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including the commander of the Junaid Sehari, were killed. The child and two others who were wounded have succumbed to their wounds in a hospital in the city.
Basim the father of Aijaz Ahmad, a driver by profession, is in a state of shock and inconsolable in his house at Chota Bazar locality of old Srinagar. He was the only son of his parents, who studied in class VII.
“He was a very cheerful boy. All in the family and the neighborhood loved him,” said his aunt Afroza.
On the night of Tuesday as a large number of people flocked to the Nawa Kadal shooting site, where two militants were killed and several houses were damaged, Basim also was with his friends. In the place, the family said in a shell came out, in which five people, including his son, received burn injuries.
“When we went to the hospital, the doctors told us that he is not going to survive, as his entire body had burns,” said his aunt.
A J&K police officer said that the child, along with four other people were injured when a wall collapsed hours after the meeting ended.
“If any shell, have shot, have been recovered fragments,” the official said.
Officials in the SMHS also said that he had suffered over 90 percent burn injuries.
“Only forensic test can confirm if a child has burn injuries due to fire or explosion,” Medical Superintendent, SMHS, Nazir Choudhary said.
